David Johnson contracted FCI (Ferro Cement Industries) to build him a 45' ferrocement hulled sailboat. David found that although ferrocement boats were not the wave of the future ¿ polyurethane foam insulation was.Eventually the name was changed to FCI Spray Foam to better reflect their new business focus and a sister company Tasman Industries was started for advancements into other markets. In May 1969 a polyurethane foam machine was purchased and polyurethane foam insulation was used to seal the hull and prevent condensation. During the build he progressed to become the Foreman of the job and eventually a part owner of the company. The contract stipulated that David be hired on to help with the build. David piloted FCI and Tasman Industries into the largest polyurethane foam insulation company in BC. David retired in 1999 and sold FCI and Tasman.
